Those present: Chairwoman Annie Cochran (San Diego
Home and Garden); Brad Wiscons (Palomar Pomerado Health); Phyllis Hall (NCTD);
and Frankie Laney (Carlsbad Community Visitors Bureau). I. Annie Cochran
called the meeting to order at 10:04 a.m. II. The Minutes of
October 26, 2005 were approved. III. Old Business (Groups in
each city) Phyllis
stated that the Business Affairs committee is working on a power point presentation
to present to civil engineers, civic groups and building industry associations to
give out information and promote membership. Annie
reviewed the order of how the presentations would be made, pointing out that
they decided to begin with the NCTD Board (which will be completed this month),
then SANDAG (which include City Council Members), City Councils, Senior
Commissioners, Chambers and community volunteers. Phyllis
stated that the Business Affairs Committee is taking care of the business side
of the organization, which includes the professionals in the transportation
industry. IV. New Business The
following was decided: Annie would
be working on the TV component and lining up interviews with Ted Owen as well
as making follow-up calls to some of the print media. In addition, she would take over Vista, Escondido, and San
Marcos in identifying the city and civic organizations that should be
contacted. Valley Center and Bonsall would need to
be identified by someone, as well. Brad
Wiscons stated that the hospital has a healthcare advisory council that
they could make a presentation to in order to get advice on where to go to from
there with regard to Bonsall and Valley Center. Phyllis
stated that they need to go out to all of the governmental affairs committees
(Chambers of Commerce) and give a light overview of the Transit Alliance and
then explain how they can use the resources and its website to their research
and advantage. She added
that Brad has already given a presentation to the Oceanside Chamber of
Commerce. Annie
pointed out that the radio advertising needs to be used as well. Phyllis
confirmed that Brad would contact The Health Advisory Council; Frankie would
have a discussion with Tim Wrisley of Carlsbad Magazine; and there would be KUSI
television interviews with Ted Owen lined up by Annie. Annie
agreed to follow-up this week with the Business Journal, The North County Times
and The Union Tribune, and Phyllis agreed to follow-up with the Oceanside
Magazine. Frankie stated
that she would contact The Fountain (San Elijo Hills) as well, and Annie stated
that she would forward the Press Release to Brad and Frankie. Annie
also stated that there would be an announcement on KUSI this week and that
there would be an ad run in the March issue of the San Diego Home and Garden
magazine if they can get the artwork from NCTD staff by the 15th of
February. She asked Phyllis
to forward her NCTD's graphic artistís email address so that she could send her
the specs this week. Phyllis suggested that she send her the
specs and she will see what she can do. Brad
asked if they are going to provide any materials in Spanish. Phyllis replied no, but that this would
be great if money allowed. Frankie
suggested a two-sided rack size flyer in Spanish. Annie stated
that this would be a good project for the Business Affairs Committee – to
find a sponsor in the Hispanic industry. Phyllis
displayed a sample of the quarterly Transit Alliance Email newsletter and
stated that they hope to send it out before the General Meeting on January 26th. She stated that they would be
adding information about projects to it so that people will want to read it. There would be a message from the
President, updates of the committees, as well as links to the TABNC website for
other information. Frankie
suggested that there be a sign-up link for the quarterly newsletter without
having to join and stated that she would review the website and get back to
them with any other suggestions. Brad
suggested making it simpler for people to express their opinions back to them
through the website by perhaps providing a link through the newsletter. Phyllis
stated that she would make the changes recommended to the newsletter and send
to committee members for their review and comments. In review, they are:

a phone call from Gerry Coleman from the Kiwanis Lunch Club in Vista asking for
a Transit Alliance presentation. Both Annie and Brad agreed to go with Phyllis
and it was agreed that this would be scheduled for February 23rd. Brad would highlight the website, Annie
would describe the recruiting efforts, and Phyllis would describe the Transit
Alliance as a whole. Phyllis
reported that they have received $18,569.00 in in-kind contributions this past
year. She added that they need to
capture the time invested by committee members and asked everyone to keep track
of their time for her for the upcoming year. Phyllis
stated that bullet points of accomplishments of the Communications Committee
over the past year need to be given to Ted Owen for his annual Presidentís
report. Annie
stated that she would make sure his assistant gets a copy of the Press Release,
and Phyllis asked her to also get 12 copies of the article about the Transit
