Alliance to promote public transport
San Diego Union Tribune – Sept 17, 2004
A group of business and community leaders has formed the Transit Alliance for a Better North County to promote mass transit.
Ted Owen, the president of the alliance, said the North County Transit District this week created the organization to promote public transportation as a means to improve the economy, the environment and quality of life.
Owen, who is also president and chief executive of the Carlsbad Chamber of Commerce, said the alliance will play an educational role.
He said the alliance supports funding of local transportation projects through TransNet, a county sales-tax surcharge that raises money for transportation projects. A measure seeking the renewal of the surcharge is on the November ballot.
But the alliance is a nonprofit, so it has not taken a political position on the measure, Owen said. |
